Bez Lightyear

Weather Report

It's summer here in the UK. So we've had a couple of short runs of hot, dry and sunny weather; but also the traditional full-on, black skies and monsoon during the Formula 1 British Grand Prix/Wimbledon tennis tournament nexus.

Spring was unnaturally dry, I think we've had about a week's worth of rain in about 4 months. This has already triggered the TV news articles about "disaster for the agricultural industry" as crops fail to grow thanks to lack of rain. Last year was particularly wet, so we had TV news articles about farming disaster thanks to sodden, waterlogged fields.

One year it would be great to see a TV news article where a beaming farmer stands in his thriving cornfield and happily reports that this has been a great year for his crops.

I saw a post on Mastodon where someone was bemoaning the incoming "heatwave" of three days of temperatures predicted to be in the low 30°C.

I'm pretty sure that three hot days in a row has another, less used name: British Summertime.
