seasidetreats
We took a trip to the seaside today. It was the first time that just Mrs Lightyear and I went on our own.
The last time we were at this particular seaside town was when our kids were in their early to mid-teens, not yet old enough to be too cool to hang with mum & dad. It was a good day, much fun was had.
Although it was lovely to spend time together as a couple, it also felt a bit sad that our kids had grown up and the fizzing excitement of a day trip to the sea had gone.
There would be the excited shout when the sea was glimpsed for the first time; the mad rush onto the sand; kites to fly; sandcastles to build; football or beach cricket to play; arcades to explore. All of that was missing. We just parked up, found a coffee stall and wandered down to the shoreline along the front and then into the town...
With the youthful excitement of candy floss kiosks, novelty sweet shops and amusement arcades missing, it was much like visiting any town in the UK.
I know kids grow up, I know they have their own lives to lead. Sometimes it's hard to let go.
