Pay I
I saw a great post on Mastodon the other day. A great, prescient and frightening post. The gist of it was that AI bros have spent other people's trillions developing their product and are currently giving it away for free, encouraging us to integrate it into our daily lives so that, eventually, we won't be able to live without it.
THEN.
Ohhh, then they start charging us for it. Every single prompt we type. Every search query. Every notification from the AI assistant. Pay a monthly subscription, get limited to 10 prompts a week, or suffer 20 minutes of ads to access our AI life coach, our AI mental health counsellor, our AI personal assistant, our AI accountant etc.
The vulture investors who threw billions and trillions of dollars at these AI snake oil hawkers will require, nay, demand a return on their investment and that's how they will do it.
We've seen it will most things on the internet. The process that internet dude Cory Doctorow named 'enshittification' coming to your AI-enhanced operating system, laptop, tablet, phone and life.
